Instructions to Authors

1. General information

Journal of Agricultural Medicine and Community Health is the official publication of the Korean Society for Agricultural Medicine and Community Health. The instruction to authors not described herein follows the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication" prepared by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org/index.html).

1.1 Publication type

It publishes original papers, reviews and field action reports on all aspects of the science and practice of agricultural medicine and community health. All submitted manuscripts are peer-reviewed by three reviewers.

1.2 Qualifications as authors

The first author and corresponding author should be members of the Korean Society for Agricultural Medicine and Community Health. If they are not members, they should apply for membership before submission. However, exceptions will be considered by the Editorial Board. Please contact the Society office to become a member.

Tel: +82-42-586-8875  Fax: +82-42-583-7561  E-mail: dash06@naver.com

1.3 Peer review and publication order

Every manuscript received is circulated to three peer reviewers. Neither the author's name nor affiliation is disclosed to reviewers during review process. If two reviewers do not agree to accept the article, it may not be considered for publication. The first review process usually takes less than a month. Publication order is based on the order of submission of finalized manuscripts.

1.4. Duplicate publication

Papers already published to other scientific journals or periodicals will not be considered for publication. Papers published in this journal should not be submitted to other scientific journals. Secondary publication is only possible when it is compatible with the "Acceptable Secondary Publication" policy suggested in the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication” (updated February 2006).

1.5 Page and article review fees

If the manuscript is accepted for publication, in addition to the page fee of Korean Won 15,000 per page, the article review fee of Korean Won 50,000 should be paid by the corresponding author before printing.

1.6 Statement of human rights

Careful attention should be paid to participant confidentiality. Information identifying participants should not be used.

1.7 Institutional Review Board approval

Authors should maintain the ethical standards of the Institutional Review Board of the author's institute and the Declaration of Helsinki of 1975 (revised in 2008).

It is authors' responsibility to verify that any clinical trial has been approved by the Institutional Review Board of the institution where the trial was conducted. The authors should state in the manuscript that such approval was received and, where applicable, that informed consent was obtained. When reporting animal studies, authors should specify appropriate ethics committee approval.

For the policies on research and publication ethics not stated in these instructions, “Good Publication Practice Guidelines for Medical Journals” (http://kamje.or.kr/publishing_ethics.html) or “Guidelines on good publication” (http://www.publicationethics.org.uk/guidelines) can be applied.

1.8 Role of the Editorial Board

Decisions regarding the editing of the journal are made by the Editorial Board. The manuscript may be revised to maintain the consistency of the editorial work providing that the content is not affected. Every manuscript submitted is not returned.

1.9 Copyright

The copyright and the transfer right of the digital content of the published papers and the journal are owned by the Korean Society for Agricultural Medicine and Community Health. Authors will be asked to sign the journal's "Statement of copyright transfer" form.

2. Publication interval and manuscript submission

The journal is published quarterly on March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31 of each year. Manuscripts can be received at any time. Submission of manuscripts should be made via e-mail (jrkim@gnu.ac.kr). Original source files are required for submission (PDF files will not accepted). Manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate with one original manuscript file containing author name(s) and affiliation(s) and one blinded file without name(s) or affiliation(s). The journal's "Checklist" form signed by first author also should be sent via e-mail or fax.

3. Writing manuscripts

3.1 Manuscripts for review

Manuscripts should be prepared on A4 paper with margins of 30 mm from the top, bottom, right side, and left side. Font size should be 10.0 points. File formats accepted are HWP and MS Word DOC files. The language of the text can be Korean or English. In principle, manuscripts should not exceed 15 printed pages. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscript based on comments from reviewers and editors. Authors are required to submit a letter of explanation responding to all comments and questions raised by reviewers and editors. If revisions cannot be submitted within one month, author(s) may request a one-month grace period. If the revised manuscript is not submitted within the required period, the manuscript will be automatically rejected. Manuscripts will not be returned after submission.

3.2 Finalized manuscripts for publication

Upon acceptance for publication, one original manuscript file should be submitted along with the journal's "Statement of copyright transfer" form signed by all the authors.

4. Specific guidelines for writing manuscripts

Manuscripts should be written and numbered in the following sequence: title page, abstract, keywords, manuscript body, acknowledgements, references, tables and figures. The manuscript body should consist of title, introduction, subjects and methods, results, and discussion. In the case of review articles, the body should consist of title, introduction, main body, and conclusion.

4.1 The title page

The title page should include the following: (a) A concise and descriptive English title; (b) full author(s) names and affiliations; (c) description of funding source(s), if any; and (d) the name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the corresponding author. Running heads should be no more than 40 characters.

4.2 The authorship

All authors must fulfill the criteria of authorship. Authors must also verify they (a) participated significantly in the study conceptualization and design, the acquisition of data, or the data analysis and interpretation of results; (b) contributed to writing the draft or made major intellectual modifications or improvements to the manuscript, and (c) approved of the final version.

4.3 Title and abstract

The title and authors' names and affiliations should be centered. The title should be simple and lucid so that the content of the manuscript is easily understood. Abbreviations should not be used. Abstracts should appear on a separate page and be no more than 250 words in length. For original articles, a structured abstract with headings for Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions should be provided. Unstructured abstracts are acceptable for reviews and field action reports. Authors should provide a list of no more than six keywords below the abstract. Keywords should be selected from the main headings listed in the Medical Subject Headings in Index Medicus published by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

4.4 Manuscript Text

For the Introduction, the purpose and the background should be written simply and lucidly. In the Subjects and Methods section, the methodology should be written precisely so that others researchers can repeat the experiments. In the Results, only objective facts should be reported. In the Discussion, the authors’ interpretation of the results and the authors’ opinion and process of induction of conclusions should be written simply.

¨ç Terms

In principle, terms should be written in English and academic terms should follow the standards described in the Scientific Technical Terminology Editions of Education Ministry or the 5th edition of the Medical Terminology of Korean Medical Association.

¨è Use of abbreviations

Only approved and standardized abbreviations may be used. Abbreviations should not be used in the main title or in the abstract. With the exception of units of measure, abbreviation should be written when first introduced in the text, and may be used independently thereafter.

¨é Generic names, numbers, and units

Original personal, geographic, and generic names should be used. Numbers should be expressed in Arabic numerals. Units of measure for length, height, weight, and volume should follow the decimal system of metric weights and measures (meters, grams, liters, etc.). Temperature should be in Celsius and blood pressure in mmHg. Units for blood and clinical laboratory test measurements should be expressed in the ordinary scale or by International Units (SI).

¨ê Drug name

When reporting drug names, generic names should be used. Commercial drug names should be used only when it is important for the purpose of the study.

¨ë Divisions of the main body

Roman numerals should be used to divide the main body of the manuscript (e.g., I, ¥±, ¥², A, B, C, a, b, c).

¨ì Reference citations

All references in the text should be cited in English. In the text, tables, and legends, references should be identified with Arabic numerals in square brackets; for example, [1], [2]. Authors' last names should be given in English. For two authors, names should be connected by "and." For three or more authors, include the first author's last name followed by "et al."

4.5 Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be placed at the end of the manuscript body and should be numbered (Arabic numerals) in the sequence in which they appear in the text. Titles for tables and figures should be self-explanatory, with the first word written with an upper case letter and the rest in lower case letters. The same principle is applied to the content of a table or figure. Tables should not use horizontal or vertical dividing lines. Within a table, if an abbreviation is used or description is necessary, these should be annotated below the table. Use symbols in the order of *, †, ‡, §,¡«, ¶, ** in superscript on the right side of the content that needs explanation and indicate the annotation according to the symbols. For each annotation given, the first letter of the first word should be capitalized. The P in “P value” should be capitalized. An example of a table is as follows.

The purpose of the department is to share experiences that others may learn from and replicate. The program should preferably be in operation long enough to permit a rigorous assessment of its impact, factoring in the cost of startup and operation. All Field Action Reports must include practical experiences and applications for others. The manuscript should not exceed 3500 words, excluding the abstract (unstructured, 250 words), key findings, and other sidebars, references, boxes, and tables/figures.

7. Undescribed matters

Any items, issues, or cases not described in the Instructions to Authors will be decided by the Editorial Board.
